Justin Baldoni Says 'We Are Healing' in First Public Remarks
A Long-Awaited Statement
Justin Baldoni says we are healing — after nearly two years of silence, the actor and his wife Emily have finally addressed their ongoing legal situation with Blake Lively. The couple shared a joint video on Instagram on Wednesday, marking their first public comments since the dispute began in December 2024.
In their statement, the Baldonis explained that they deliberately chose to remain quiet while the legal proceedings unfolded. They emphasized that their silence was not due to a lack of things to say, but rather a sense that the timing wasn't right.
"So we have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years and it's not because we haven't had anything to say because lord knows we have," Justin Baldoni shared in the video. "But it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to -- it just didn't feel like the right time."
Emily Baldoni echoed her husband's sentiments, noting that the current moment feels appropriate for their response.
"And this feels like the moment," she said.
The Legal Landscape
The legal proceedings have been complex and evolving. In April, a federal judge dismissed the majority of Lively's claims against Baldoni, including allegations of sexual harassment. However, the judge permitted Lively to continue pursuing a retaliation claim against Baldoni's public relations teams.
Both parties eventually reached an agreement to settle the matter, but they remain engaged in a separate court battle concerning legal fees. The financial aspects of the dispute have become increasingly prominent, with Lively's attorneys recently filing a court document stating that Wayfarer Studios, Baldoni's production company, owes the actress $7,495,526.87 in attorneys' fees.
According to the filing, Lively is additionally seeking $539,514.01 in costs and expenses related to the dismissed case. The filing followed a decision by U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman, who denied Lively's request for punitive damages but allowed her to pursue attorneys' fees under California Civil Code Section 47.1.
Gratitude and Reflection
The Baldonis used their platform to express deep appreciation for the support they've received. They acknowledged that while gratitude doesn't erase the pain they've experienced, it has been instrumental in their recovery.
"What does feel important is that we can genuinely say that we are sitting here today feeling immense gratitude for so many things and so many people and so many things that have happened to us," Emily Baldoni said.
"Gratitude has saved us," Justin Baldoni added.
Emily emphasized that gratitude doesn't diminish the injustice they've faced.
"Gratitude doesn't negate the injustice and the pain that we have also felt in the last few years," she explained. "We've had to wrestle with so many things and try to understand so many thing, like how could something like this even happen? Let alone disguise[d] as a fight for women,"
Moving Forward
The couple made it clear that while they have much to share, they aren't revealing everything at once. They want to allow the legal process to continue without unnecessary interference.
"We just wanted to let the justice system run its course," Justin said.
"The truth and the facts have spoken for themselves. And here we are," Emily added.
Justin described healing as a non-linear process that looks different each day. He noted that the experience has helped them refocus on what truly matters: their children, family, friends, community, and faith.
The Baldonis also expressed sincere appreciation for those who advocated for them during their period of silence.
"There were so many of you who, when we didn't have a voice, were our voice," Justin said. "Thank you does not feel like enough."
Emily concluded by reiterating their commitment to moving forward.
"There is so much more to say, and that time will come. But for now, we are going to focus on continuing the healing and hanging out with our kiddos and enjoying life."
The video release comes just days after the court filing regarding legal fees, highlighting the ongoing nature of this high-profile dispute between the former "It Ends With Us" co-stars.
