Authorities in Derby have detained a man following a collision with pedestrians. The event occurred in the city’s Friar Gate district on Saturday evening, resulting in at least seven individuals sustaining injuries. Officials reported that those involved sustained ‘severe but non-fatal injuries’.
The suspect, a 30-something male, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He was operating a black Suzuki Swift at the time. Police cited ‘attempted murder, dangerous driving, and grievous bodily harm with intent’ as the charges against him. The inquiry into the event’s circumstances continues, with investigators maintaining an open mindset regarding the possible reasons behind the attack.
“The police are actively investigating. We don’t believe there is wider cause for the public to be alarmed,” stated Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood, emphasizing that the threat to civilians has been mitigated. She noted the situation is currently stable, with no indication of further danger.
