Davina McCall reveals her visceral reaction to being diagnosed with breast cancer – just WEEKS after a mammogram came back ‘clear’

Davina McCall’s Health Journey: From Clear Mammogram to Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Davina McCall recently opened up about her intense emotional response to learning she had breast cancer, just weeks after a mammogram had shown ‘no issues’—a revelation that sparked a powerful outburst upon returning home.

A Shocking Turn of Events

The 58-year-old discovered her condition in November last year while self-examining her breasts during a break from filming *The Masked Singer* on ITV. Her diagnosis came nearly a year to the day following the removal of a benign brain tumor, which she had previously endured.

‘He was like, “okay, so look, I’m just letting you know if you if you want to kind of get angry with me or just like, tell me you’re angry. Like, you know, I’m here,”’ she recounted.

McCall’s now husband, Michael Douglas, was present when she received the news, offering her a safe space to process her emotions. Though she initially tried to mask her feelings, she later confessed to letting out her frustration physically.

‘Then I got really angry, and I got the cushions out and the pillow [punching them] and that was quite therapeutic,’ she shared.

Life After Diagnosis

During a Heart Breakfast interview with Jamie Theakston, McCall admitted the cancer diagnosis arrived at an inopportune moment. She revealed the news on Instagram in November, noting that while the cancer had been detected ‘very very early’, it would still require radiotherapy.

The initial lump was noticed while she was filming *The Masked Singer*, prompting her to seek medical attention after a sign in the Lorraine studio toilets suggested she check her breasts. A biopsy confirmed the presence of breast cancer, which she addressed through a lumpectomy.

McCall emphasized the importance of self-examination, stating, ‘I was already a clean eater – I eat nauseatingly clean – and I exercise, but I want to get negativity out of my life.’ She deleted accounts that evoked sadness or anger, curating her social media feed to focus on puppies, babies, and hairdos.

Global Perspective on Breast Cancer

The NHS highlights the need for women to be vigilant about breast changes, such as lumps, skin dimpling, color shifts, discharge, and nipple rashes. Routine screenings are recommended for those aged 50 to 70. Globally, breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent cancers, with over 55,000 new cases and 11,500 deaths annually in the UK. In the US, it affects 266,000 individuals each year, resulting in 40,000 fatalities.

McCall, now ‘cancer free’ since January 2026, described her experience as transformative. ‘I had a scan yesterday and felt anxious – something called “scanxiety” – but there was nothing there. I’m not afraid of dying anymore. It feels liberating,’ she said.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

After navigating a challenging 2025 marked by her brain tumor treatment, McCall found herself grappling with another health challenge in October. ‘It felt like being punched in the face by the universe. I was just beginning to feel like myself again,’ she reflected.

Despite the dual health setbacks, she expressed renewed determination to embrace life fully. ‘I’m well. I’m bouncy and annoyingly chipper. It makes you so grateful. I got a second go in life and I’m so lucky. Enjoy life and go big,’ she concluded.

In November 2024, McCall had already surprised fans by revealing she was undergoing brain surgery to remove a colloid cyst, a rare, non-cancerous tumor affecting three in a million people. These cysts, filled with a gel-like substance, often go unnoticed until symptoms arise.
