Man Arrested After Baby Girl Dies in Suspected Dog Attack

A 45-year-old man was detained following the death of a three-month-old female infant from a dog bite in Redcar, according to local police. The incident occurred shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday when armed personnel responded to an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, due to concerns about a child’s safety.

Officers reportedly killed a dog on the street and another at the property during their response. The police confirmed that the girl’s death was attributed to a dog bite, though the exact circumstances are under investigation. A 31-year-old woman was also injured, sustaining a bite to her arm, and was treated at a hospital.

The man was taken into custody on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to serious harm. He has since been released on conditional bail. Authorities stated that both dogs were evaluated by a specialist officer and were not identified as belonging to a restricted breed.

“We remain at the scene as the inquiry progresses,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, leading local policing. “Our condolences go out to the family during this sorrowful event. I urge the public to honor their privacy during this challenging period.”

Cleveland Police are appealing for any additional details, including video footage, to assist with the ongoing case. The force encourages individuals with relevant information to come forward.
