GB News has confirmed that broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is currently in hospital following a stroke. The channel shared that Holmes “fell ill last week” and “was later diagnosed with a stroke.” His team reported that he is “showing positive signs of improvement” and that “his colleagues at GB News are hoping for a quick recovery.”
A Career Spanning Decades
The 66-year-old journalist, originally from Northern Ireland, has built a long-standing presence in television. He began his career on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster before transitioning to GMTV, which launched in January 1993. Holmes remained with the channel until 2005. Subsequently, he hosted Sky News’s Sunrise program and co-led ITV’s This Morning alongside Ruth Langsford, whom he wed in 2010.
In 2024, a representative stated that Holmes and Langsford “announced the end of their marriage and are currently finalizing their divorce.” His contributions to the broadcasting industry were recognized with an OBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.
Recent Health Challenges
Before this latest incident, Holmes had already faced several health issues. He underwent spinal surgery and received a double hip replacement, which impacted his mobility. He often relied on a scooter to navigate. This new development adds to his medical history, though his current condition is described as stable.
“Eamonn is a cherished part of our team,” said GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos, highlighting his role as a “beloved member of the GB News family.”
Fellow presenter Alex Armstrong will temporarily replace Holmes on the breakfast show during his recovery period. The channel has not disclosed further details about his treatment or prognosis.
