Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed

Man Sentenced for Throwing Girlfriend from Tower Block

Jordan Herring, 22, from Solihull, received a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of causing serious injury. The conviction followed a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was found guilty of wounding his girlfriend, Bobbie Goodman, 18, during an incident at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. The attack occurred in November 2022, when Goodman fell from the fourth-floor flat of Herring’s mother. She sustained a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs, requiring an airlift to hospital.

Victim’s Trauma and Recovery

Bobbie Goodman described the event as “very dehumanising” in an interview with the BBC. She spent a month in hospital and additional time using a wheelchair, struggling with mobility and independence. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again,” she said. The incident left her with deep emotional scars, including a lasting distrust of men. “He’s ruined my life in so many ways,” she added. “I have a lot of hatred for this man. But I hope someday, I will.”

“I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her,”

claimed Kerrie-Anne Grogan, Herring’s mother, during the trial. Her distraught 999 call came more than an hour after the fall, as emergency services were summoned. Herring had previously been convicted of coercive and controlling behavior toward Goodman, which the jury heard as part of the case.

Relationship and Motive

According to police, Herring described the relationship as “toxic” and admitted the pair argued about infidelity on the night of the incident. He was sentenced on Monday for both wounding and coercive behavior. Officers praised Goodman for her courage in recounting the abuse, stating they continue to support her throughout the process. The case highlights the severe consequences of domestic control and violence.
