Harry and Meghan arrive in Australia for four-day tour

Harry and Meghan Touch Down in Australia for Four-Day Visit

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have touched down in Australia for a four-day visit that blends humanitarian efforts with personal ventures. Unlike their previous royal duties, the couple is now participating in the trip as private citizens, free to balance their charitable work with commercial opportunities. Their itinerary includes meetings with patients and medical staff at a children’s hospital, military veterans and their families, as well as survivors of domestic violence.

Commercial Events Highlight the Trip

The visit also features profit-driven activities. Prince Harry will deliver a keynote address at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit in Melbourne, where attendees pay between A$1,000 and A$2,400 for tickets. Some proceeds support the Lifeline charity, though the exact compensation for Harry remains undisclosed. Meanwhile, Meghan will host a “girls’ weekend” event in Sydney, tailored for women and featuring an in-person conversation with attendees of the Her Best Life podcast.

First Visit Since 2018, No Public Meet-and-Greets

This marks Harry and Meghan’s return to Australia since 2018, when they spent nearly nine days in the country shortly after their wedding. That time was marked by large crowds and high-profile appearances, but this visit lacks public engagement events. The couple has opted to minimize public interactions, prioritizing meetings with host organizations over open access for fans.

Private Funding and Potential Taxpayer Costs

Following their departure from royal duties in January 2020, the couple stated the trip is privately funded. However, concerns linger about whether Australian taxpayers are covering expenses for security during their stay. Victoria and New South Wales police confirmed additional security measures will be in place, though details on public funding remain unclear.

Brand Visibility and Trademark Efforts

During the visit, Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand is expected to gain attention, with suggestions it may be tested as a market in Australia. The brand has already secured trademarks across 12 product categories in the country, as noted in a government IP database. The duchess will also host a VIP event at a Sydney beachside hotel, with guests paying up to A$3,199 for the chance to meet her and pose for photos.

Public Reaction and Local Impact

Upon arrival in Melbourne, hundreds of people gathered at the Royal Children’s Hospital to see the couple. They interacted warmly with children and their parents, who shared selfies and hugs. Emily Burke, a local mother, described the moment:

“We just found out they were coming so we hung around. Meghan came and had a little chat with Phoebe… she was commenting on her Bluey slippers.”

The visit will conclude with a rugby match in Sydney on Friday evening, followed by Meghan’s wellness event on Saturday.
