British Expats in Dubai Describe ‘Nerve-Wracking’ Emergency Alerts for Immediate Shelter

British expatriates and locals in Dubai have been subjected to urgent phone notifications about potential missile threats. These alerts, designed to prompt rapid action, have created a climate of heightened alertness among the population.

At least two emergency notifications were dispatched, urging individuals to evacuate to secure locations and await ‘further instructions.’ The Middle East has been targeted by Iran’s most intense missile strike campaign so far, escalating tensions in the region.

Dubai experienced several drone interceptions, with debris landing on two of its iconic landmarks—the Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah—setting them ablaze. Martyn, a British resident, shared his experience: “We received two alerts recently and another two last night. It’s a very tense situation. Being in the eye of the storm makes it hard to gauge the true danger. There’s no way to predict what might happen.”

“The alerts are incredibly stressful. Many people thought the missiles would pass, but I believe it’s best to find shelter because the outcome is uncertain,” he explained. “My heart races every time I get one, especially since Iran is targeting US military bases and organizations across the region after the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in ‘Operation Epic Fury.’”

Martyn added that the disruption across the UAE is exactly what Iran seeks. “My friend in Abu Dhabi was heavily affected—there were 15 intercepts recently,” he said. “It feels like the Iranians are taking pot shots to cause maximum disruption.”
