Eamonn Holmes ‘doing OK’ after stroke, his son says

Declan Holmes, the son of veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, shared updates on his father’s condition following a recent stroke. “We’re proceeding gradually, one day at a time,” he stated, emphasizing the family’s commitment to maintaining stability around the 66-year-old GB News presenter. The update came alongside an image of Declan supporting his father, offering a glimpse into their current situation.

“We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family,” Declan added in a post shared on Instagram.

GB News confirmed Holmes’s hospitalization after he fell ill last week, noting that he was “responding well to treatment” during his recovery. The channel’s chief executive, Angelos Frangopoulos, described Holmes as a “loved member of the GB News family” and pledged ongoing support during his healing process.

A Career Marked by Resilience

Known for his presence on breakfast television, Holmes has had a long career in broadcasting. He joined GB News in 2022 to host its morning show, having previously led programs on Sky News and ITV. His professional journey includes decades of work, with highlights such as co-hosting ITV’s *This Morning* alongside his wife, Ruth Langsford, who he married in 2010.

The couple announced their separation in 2024, with a spokesperson confirming “their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” Holmes has also addressed other health challenges over the years, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility, which he managed using a scooter.

Understanding the Stroke

A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted, as explained by NHS guidelines. Common symptoms include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech impairments. Holmes’s recent health episode has brought attention to these risks, especially for individuals in his age group.

While the exact details of his stroke remain undisclosed, his family has expressed cautious optimism. Declan’s message highlights the emotional toll of the event, calling it “a real shock” and thanking the public for their well-wishes as they move forward together.
