‘Le Humiliation’ and ‘US and Iran start historic peace talks’

US and Iran Start Historic Peace Talks

The Sunday Times reports that a firm linked to Reform UK’s deputy leader and business spokesman, Richard Tice, allegedly violated tax laws by not remitting a 20% withholding tax on dividends distributed to him and his offshore trust. The publication claims Tice received at least £91,000 in additional payments due to this oversight. The property investment company, Quidnet REIT Limited, reportedly failed to apply the levy before transferring profits to Tice and his trust.

“Revenue and customs have been fully settled,” Tice stated in the article, adding that the claims were “a deliberate effort to tarnish a successful businessman turned politician who inspires millions.”

In an interview with the Telegraph, Baroness Falkner, former head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, criticized the government for “cowardice” in delaying guidance on women’s rights to single-sex spaces. She suggested that Women and Equalities Minister Bridget Phillipson was obstructing the release of the document to safeguard her career prospects. Phillipson had earlier emphasized the need for time to finalize the updated policy framework, the paper noted.

UK Navy Faces French Assistance Amid Operational Challenges

The Mail on Sunday revealed that defense sources indicated the Royal Navy may require French support to intercept Russian vessels within British waters. This comes as the UK fleet struggles to meet “operational commitments.” In response, the Ministry of Defence asserted that British waters are consistently safeguarded and monitored, maintaining that the nation has sufficient resources to ensure security.

Political Reversal and Sporting Triumph

The Sunday Express highlighted a “U-turn of all U-turns” following Sir Keir Starmer’s decision to abandon the Chagos Islands agreement. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch claimed this move was a victory for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, praising her party’s “relentless” resistance to the deal. Meanwhile, the Observer observed that while the agreement was paused, relations between the US and UK are said to be deteriorating.

Many newspapers featured a photograph of jockey Paul Townend securing a win with I Am Maximus at yesterday’s Grand National. The pair’s second triumph in three years has sparked comparisons to Red Rum, the former multiple champion, as noted by the Sunday Times.
