Two in hospital after bus crashes down embankment on A9

Two in Hospital Following A9 Bus Incident

A collision involving a bus occurred on the A9 near Aviemore, resulting in two individuals being transported to the hospital. The incident took place around 9:40 on Sunday, prompting a coordinated emergency operation that included firefighters, paramedics, and police. The A9 was temporarily closed for approximately two hours before reopening.

Details of the Accident

The vehicle involved was an electric bus traveling from Inverness to Edinburgh, operated by the transport company Ember. Witnesses captured images of the large turquoise bus partially lodged on a grassy slope beside the road, with multiple emergency responders attending to the scene. According to George Rennie, who was on a separate Ember route from Glasgow to Inverness, his bus halted to assist injured passengers.

Passenger Accounts

Rennie described the situation, stating that the bus was forced to return to the junction after receiving a message from the driver. “We heard that anyone not hurt would be picked up,” he explained. The passengers reported the coach had tipped over during a turn, with some unaware of the problem until a loud crash was heard. “Half the group had seatbelts on, but others were just relaxed before the impact,” Rennie added. He noted that a few passengers sustained minor injuries, such as cuts and bruises.

“Around seven shaken-up passengers boarded before we dropped them off at Aviemore Train Station,” Rennie said. “One person hit the floor, and another struck his face, causing a lip cut. The rest described flying forward and hitting their heads on seats.”

Operator Statement

A spokesperson for Ember confirmed that one of their vehicles was involved in a single-vehicle accident on 12 April. They praised the emergency services for their swift response and stated the company is cooperating fully with ongoing police inquiries.
