Thinking of signing up to Metro’s Lifeline challenge? Here’s everything you need to know
Join Metro’s Lifeline Challenge for a Meaningful Adventure
This summer, envision yourself strolling through the scenic Cotswold landscapes, feeling the breeze against your skin and sunlight warming your face, with the knowledge that each stride contributes to aiding individuals living with dementia.
What You Need to Know Before Signing Up
If you’re new to our dynamic Lifeline initiative, you might have several questions. That’s why we’ve compiled essential details to ensure you feel equipped, assured, and backed as you prepare for this remarkable fundraising event supporting Alzheimer’s Society.
Event Overview
The challenge will unfold on June 13, 2026, beginning at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. Team Lifeline is a diverse group, comprising Metro staff, Alzheimer’s Society members, and readers like you, plus others who discovered the event through the charity’s channels. Participants span various age groups and fitness levels, and you’re free to join alone or with companions, depending on what suits you best.
As the event is open to all, you’ll be walking alongside over 2000 others with similar goals. Even if you register individually, there will always be fellow walkers nearby to converse with and keep you energized.
Choosing Your Distance and Fundraising Goals
Participants can select from three distances: 25km, 50km, or 100km (which can be completed in one go or split over two days). We typically see people signing up for each option, so you’ll never be alone in your choice.
On the day, you’ll be able to dig deep and give it your all – we’ve seen it happen! – but it’s important to ensure you’re confident in your ability to finish.
Registration starts at just £15, with fundraising targets of £150 for the 25km, £225 for 50km, and £330 for 100km. The amount you raise will determine your registration fee, as highlighted in the guide.
Support and Preparation
At least 50% of your fundraising goal must be met three weeks before the event, with the rest and any additional contributions due within four weeks of crossing the finish line. Metro’s Lifeline has its own JustGiving page to streamline donations, and you’ll receive the link immediately upon registration.
Begin fundraising early to give yourself ample time to meet targets. You’ll also get regular updates from the charity and event organizers, Action Challenge, including start times, route details, and bib numbers. The start-time email arrives four weeks prior, while your e-ticket is sent 10–14 days before the challenge.
Community and Resources
For ongoing motivation and tips, join our dedicated Facebook group where participants exchange training plans, share practice walk photos, and offer encouragement. As the event approaches, you’ll be invited to a WhatsApp group to ensure everyone’s safe and informed about the next day’s plans.
For further assistance, Action Challenge provides a FAQ section on the sign-up page. Whether you’re a solo participant or part of a team, you’ll have the resources needed to succeed.
