EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Diana Dress Designer’s Companies Both Go Bust
David Emanuel, the designer behind Lady Diana Spencer’s iconic wedding gown, faced financial hardship after the 1981 nuptials. The ivory silk taffeta creation, adorned with intricate lace and featuring a 25-foot train, captured global attention from 750 million viewers watching the ceremony on television.
Despite the gown’s fame, it did not secure David’s long-term prosperity. Recently disclosed records reveal that both his businesses have collapsed, accumulating nearly £300,000 in combined debts. Licensed to Design, launched in 2002, carries a £280,000 liability, while Renaissance Man, established in 2018, has £280,443 in obligations.
David, 73, has detailed the financial state of his ventures to liquidators via Statements of Affairs. Assets, including fixtures and fittings valued at £96,000, are labeled as uncertain to realize, alongside directors’ loans totaling £60,000. Outstanding liabilities include £72,000 in corporation tax to HMRC, £103,000 owed to NatWest Bank, and £33,000 to Ovo Energy.
