Astronauts Break Distance Record During Artemis II Mission

The Artemis II crew, aboard the Orion spacecraft, recently set a new benchmark for distance from Earth. Their nine-day journey carried them farther than any humans in history, surpassing the Apollo 13 record of 248,655 miles (400,171 km). Crew members like Jeremy Hansen, the first Canadian astronaut to venture into deep space, shared updates via video link, offering glimpses of their experiences. Christina Koch, part of the team, remarked,

“It is so great to hear from Earth again.”

The mission, now in its third day, orbits the far side of the Moon without a landing, though NASA aims to achieve a lunar touchdown by 2028.
