Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared

Investigators Probe Guthrie Disappearance by Asking Neighbors About Internet Glitches

As part of their search for Nancy Guthrie, investigators have inquired with local residents regarding potential internet connectivity problems that occurred on the night she went missing. On Thursday, both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI conducted door-to-door inquiries in Guthrie’s neighborhood within the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, Arizona.

Three residents from the area informed NBC News that during their visit, agents specifically asked if they had experienced any internet disturbances the night Guthrie disappeared. They noted that the investigators mentioned several neighbors had reported connectivity issues around that time.

“In response to NBC News’ earlier inquiry, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, ‘I’ve not looked at that closely, but yeah, I know that my team has examined every angle with the FBI.’”

The three residents mentioned they were either asleep or away at the time, leaving them unable to confirm whether their own internet service had experienced problems. Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at approximately 9:45 p.m. on January 31 after dinner with her other daughter, Annie Guthrie. She was reported missing on February 1 following her failure to attend a friend’s house in Tucson for a Sunday livestreamed church service.

Authorities have indicated the case likely involves a kidnapping or abduction, though additional specifics remain scarce. Last month, the FBI shared doorbell camera footage and images of an armed, masked individual wearing gloves outside Guthrie’s home during the early hours of her disappearance. The suspect is described as a man between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, and was seen carrying a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack in the footage.

Savannah Guthrie, who has taken a leave from her TODAY show position and is in Arizona with her family, visited the New York City studio earlier this week. A spokesperson noted, “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused on supporting her family and working to locate Nancy.”

The Guthrie family announced on February 24 that they are offering a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery, adding to rewards from the FBI and Crime Stoppers.
